There are two exhibitions coming up at the Eastman house that I am really excited about. One is the re-examination of the New Topographics exhibition from 1975. The other is called Nature as Artifice: New Dutch Landscape in Photography and video art. My friend from Rochester, Travis, works at the Eastman house and posted about the openings coming up. I was thinking about paraphrasing but decided against it, so I will repost his statement here.
New Topographics is one of the most important photographic shows (1975) that has ever been on view, and was newly installed on our walls. this show is something you should check out if you’re into contemporary photography.
nature as artifice is a beautiful show containing several artists renditions of the dutch landscape. very bold and lush in comparison to new topographics but following on the same notes. this show not only contains photography but also several video installations.
im pretty excited about this exhibition, and i think you should come to the opening. it is opened up to members and college students with valid ID’s.
the opening starts at 7 pm (tonight – june 12) , and there is also a panel discussion at 6 pm at the dryden (also free to members or students with a valid ID) with about 4 of the visiting dutch artists and the curator of the exhibition.
Nature as Artifice runs from Saturday, June 13, 2009 – Sunday, August 16, 2009
