I went to Montreal on a whim with three of my good friends here in Rochester. I have been meaning to update here but I didn’t want to write about it until I had it all organized and planned out. As of now this is still a work in progress. Consider it installation one of several.

All four of us cram into a full bed hotel room. Two on the floor, two on the bed every night.

We walk over to see a group of boys and men break dancing in a parking lot while a DJ spins. Slowly we realize this is no average parking lot party. We have ventured into something exceptional. Heading around the corner we find scaffolding hugging the walls, the smell of fresh spray paint and a crowd of beautiful people.

There is something so satisfying about eating and drinking outside, sitting on the curb.

Confident, friendly, smooth-talking almost? I become the person I want to be all of the time. Two beers drunk in a dream world, if I wasn’t going to come out of my shell now? when then?

I am high from the human contact, the kindness of strangers. The vibe in this place is palpable, unlike any other group dynamic, it feels safe despite the true unpredictability of the situation.

Then we return, along the back alley. there are a series of staircases up to the back of buildings with little groups revolving around them. These people give off a different vibe, slightly menacing, unapproachable, not the right people for us.

She tells us to picnic in the park and bring some beers, “It’s fine as long as you are having a ‘picnic’ so just
bring a baguette.”
